This is a dynamic opportunity to be part of the premier water industry association in the United States. The new Communications Specialist will join a team of professionals who work in a collaborative environment with respected water leaders across the state to develop and advance critical water management policy priorities on behalf of California’s agricultural and urban water agencies and water users. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and proactive individual to provide critical support and be an integral part of ACWA’s Communications Department.

Located just steps away from the State Capitol, ACWA is the largest statewide coalition of public water agencies in the country, a leader on California water issues, and a respected voice for its members in both Sacramento and Washington, D.C.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Communications Specialist performs a variety of professional duties as part of the Association’s communications and outreach programs, including developing publications and other collateral, writing, research, and project management. This position is also responsible for ACWA’s website content development and placement utilizing Word Press in addition to managing the association’s awards and scholarships program, assisting with the development and implementation of campaigns, and researching and writing legislative and regulatory alerts, fact sheets, news releases, newsletter articles and other materials.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The hourly compensation range is $34.11 – $44.34 per hour. Salary is based on qualifications. ACWA offers a competitive benefits package that includes CalPERS retirement, medical insurance, and dental insurance.

Requirements

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about principles and practices of public affairs and strategic communication; practices of website use and research; social media tactics, trends and best practices; be able to write and edit various collateral materials for different audiences; be able to manage large projects with multiple pieces; be able to juggle varying tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities; and have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree with major course work in communications, journalism, English or related field and two years of professional public information, public affairs, media or marketing experience. Experience with associations, public agencies or water-related knowledge is preferable.
